This Earth and space science resource, developed for middle and high school students, provides eleven images that illustrate the magnitude of the Milky Way galaxy in the known universe. Beginning with an image of the Milky Way, students are instructed to zoom in toward Earth to see how our galaxy contains solar neighborhoods, star systems, and the solar system. Zooming out shows images of the Milky Way with respect to its nearest galaxies and superclusters, sheets, and voids, and the farthest visible reaches of the universe. Each image is labeled to indicate landmark points as well as a scale in light-years. Copyright 2005 Eisenhower National Clearinghouse
