Lesson Plan

Journal writing is an informal writing activity that encourages the free expression of thoughts, feelings, and opinions dealing with the relationship between the student and the course content. Simplicity is the key as students are persuaded to express themselves without the constraints of mechanics, usage, criticism, or correction. Journal entries should be void of rules beyond the requirement of an honest personal response.

Reviewer Comments:

This resource is a lesson plan for students to create individual journals. Once begun, the student is to articulate thoughts, feelings and opinions about topics being studied, as well as to write personal responses to prompts and quotes. The lesson includes a plan for defining expressive writing and working with the writing process. The prompts focus on decision making, change, leadership, character, history, and irony. This lesson is well thought out and immediately usable.
