What if I combine media into my own work? There is a rumor circulating that you can use up to 30 seconds of any copyrighted work in your own work. This is simply not true. If you combine pieces of others' pre-existing work, you must make sure the licensing is consistent throughout. If you plan on licensing this new work under a Creative Commons license, all the contributing media needs to be original (you own the copyright), public domain, or used in a way that is consistent with the terms of that license. You may not use any portion of work labeled “all rights reserved" without obtaining permission from the person who owns those rights.
