This virtual manipulative presents two containers of specified volume. The goal is to fill and pour juice so that the target volume of juice is found in one of the two containers. The student can fill and pour juice between containers in any order to achieve the target volume. The computer keeps track of the amount of juice in each container. A congratulations message appears after solving the problem correctly. New problem and challenge options are available with the manipulative. In the challenge option, an impossible target number is given for specific size containers, and the student is asked to explain why the situation is impossible. Instructions for using the applet and parent/teacher suggestions for using equations to extend the applet are included, along with a link to the NCTM Standard for Measurement.
