This portal provides links to a set of online map indexes of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and other organizations which can be used to locate, view, or create maps. For teachers, there is the Education Map Catalog, which provides access to several hundred of the most useful USGS maps for teaching and learning, organized by 12 themes. The maps are available in a wide variety of scales and themes, and cover the United States, many countries, the Moon, Mars, other planets, and many of their moons. Other links access the National Atlas and National Map of the United States, a selection of geospatial datasets, the Geographic Names Information System ( GNIS ), and a variety of maps on geologic structures and earthquake hazards. There are also links to sites where map products can be purchased online.
