Description:

How are orange roughy able to obtain sufficient food in the deep ocean environment? By studying typical marine food webs and comparing them to food webs found in the vicinity of seamounts, students learn why seamounts support a higher density of biological organisms than would appear to be possible considering food available from primary production at the ocean’s surface.
