Quick Write --- Student writes for 2-3 minutes about what her/she heard from the lecture or teaching just presented. Could be started as an open ended question to get them started.
Quick Class Check -- Give students paper plates, index cards, whiteboards, or large sheets of paper. When asking a questions have all students write the answer and at your signal, have all student hold them up so you can see who or how many got the correct answer. Discussion, elaborated teaching or reteaching can then take place.
One Minute Paper -- Teacher decides what the focus will be. Ask students "What was the most important thing learned?" What important questions remains unanswered or understood? Set aside 5-10 minutes of class to discuss the results. This gives the teacher an idea who is retaining information as well as who needs more assistance.
