Graphic Organizer/Worksheet, Lesson Plan


The objective of this group activity is to use your knowledge of order of operations and a combination of four fours to create all the numbers from 1 to 40 (1 to 30 if you are in a group of 3). The four fours must be mathematically manipulated to create your desired number.

This creative activity has students use 4-fours and mathematical operations to create expressions with values from 1 to 30 or 40. Students use general mathematical operations as well as advanced mathematical operations, such as squaring, cubing, square root and factorial. Students will be evaluated on accuracy, operations, grouping symbols, neatness and creativity using a provided rubric. Students will also evaluate themselves upon completion. This activity could be improved by provided possible solutions. Overall, a classroom friendly, easy to use activity.
