Reviewer Comments:

This is a detailed and well-thought out lesson plan that provides students with opportunities to think about the impact of communication innovations. The lesson includes objectives, technology integration information, standards, time estimates, rubrics, and much more. The lesson engages students by having them do a series of activities including a quickwrite on the impact of communication, an opportunity to research great moments in communication, and a comparison between the Internet and the Gutenberg printing press. Links are provided to relevant websites such as the CBS-Kids History of Invention and ReadWriteThink which assists students in creating an interactive venn diagram. While intended for middle school students, this lesson could also be used in a Current Issues elective class or a high school World History course during a unit on the Industrial Revolution.
