The purpose of this lesson is to explore the effects of different variables on the rate of photosynthesis. This activity is designed to follow class discussions about the process and purpose of photosynthesis. This lab is intended for high school (9th - 12th grade) students but can be adapted for middle school students. Students should be familiar with the role of enzymes and factors that impact their function and the process of photosynthesis. Upon completion of this activity, students will be able to explain the role of plants in the ecosystem and their importance to humans. This teaching resource was developed by a K-12 science teacher in the American Physiological Society’s 2008 Frontiers in Physiology Program.
