Description:

This site, entitled Gyroscope, is offered by the Kenyon College Department of Physics. It describes the history of the gyroscope from its invention in 1852 by the French physicist Leon Foucault to other early variations. Large photographs of the pieces are given along with brief explanations. Visitors can also find a link to the gyroscopes predecessor, Bohnenberger's Apparatus, at the bottom of the page.
