This activity gets learners looking at 6-sided shapes in nature, including the cells of a beehive, as well as other shapes. Learners use the activity's shape chart to keep track of all the shapes they can find in the natural world in a week. The activity also encourages learners to catch snowflakes on paper and examine them with a magnifying glass to see their hexagonal crystals. Younger learners can look for simple shape samples, while older learners can connect their shape hunt to more advanced lessons in geometric shapes or crystal formation, for example.
