Description:

The purpose of this lesson is to develop an experimental design investigating 1) the effects of different concentrations of solutions on animal and plant cells; and 2) methods of food preservation using osmosis. This lesson is targeted to 7th graders, but can be modified. Upon completion of this activity, students will be able to use the scientific method, describe how some cells respond to stimuli, and explain osmosis and diffusion. This teaching resource was developed by a K-12 science teacher in the American Physiological Society’s 2006 Frontiers in Physiology Program.
