Have you ever wondered how birds flock? Think about it... They don't talk on cell phones, or have planning meetings before flying off into the blue. How do they do it?
Very complex behaviors - even intelligent behaviors like flocking - can be the result of nothing more than participants following a few simple rules. In this little unit we'll hear world-famous artist Brian Eno and world-famous game designer Will Wright talk about how complexity can grow out of simplicity. They'll discuss a simulation called Conway's Game of Life
that you'll get to try yourself. We'll close by coming back to the example of birds and how they manage to flock.
