Reviewer Comments:

Investigation Backpack is a column by Bob Albrecht and Brian Hanna in The Oregon Mathematics Teacher, a journal of math education. (At the time of review, this collection contains 4 columns and columns are frequently added.) These columns promote activities appropriate for a wide audience from middle school to high school students. All of the ideas require students to think critically and across the curriculum, with a strong focus on math and science. Activities include an analysis of lighting options (CFL vs. incandescent), WordsWorth (a combination secret code, language arts learning and math game), simulated hiking survival trips, and collaborative planning of a mission to Mars. Columns contain background information and helpful data, as well as links for further resources. Objectives, procedures, and assessments are not explicitly discussed, although the activities are engaging enough that it would be well worth an educator’s time to develop these specifics.
