Reviewer Comments:

This resource is intended for late elementary students and asks students to explore the characteristics of three different zoo animals (zebra, polar bear, and kangaroo) “jigsaw style” then return to their group of three to present their findings on each animal, and vote on which animal (of the three) should be inducted into the West Chester Zoo. The goals, research, and assessment are clearly laid out. For students this young, it may be helpful to have some suggestions on how to guide them in managing the pros & cons lists as well as choosing one animal to be the “best.” Suggestions welcome, please write in the comments section below.

I think it would be difficult to have the kids make a choice independent from any sort of consideration of habitat design. Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to discuss criteria and constraints as outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards, especially 3-5-ETS1-2: http://www.nextgenscience.org/3-5ets-engineering-design
