This highly interactive site offers many ways to introduce jazz as a musical genre and cultural tradition. Along with a section of activities for young students, this site contains an interactive map featuring the prominent jazz centers in America. A web ''lounge'' defines jazz with recordings of key elements and genres, and it also includes audio files of nine different songs. Artists featured on the site include Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughan. This resource is referenced in the EDSITEment lesson titled ''Attitudes Toward Emancipation.''
