It also requires extensive research to gather scientific information on animal biology/ecology.

LEGO Education: Robotics

LEGO education offers several kinds of robotics systems designed specifically for educational use: WeDo, Mindstorms (NXT & EVO), and Tetrix. WeDo is advertised for elementary level, but can be used at middle school with some extensions, such as those I offer in this Curriki collection. WeDo is particularly accessible for disadvantaged students who may have little prior experience with LEGO products, mechanical construction, or computer use.

An excellent collection of kid-friendly, original creations that can be made with the WeDo set. Lots of animals and vehicles. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Also includes intro to Scratch programming (an alternative to the WeDo software).

I have here attempted to construct imitations of the 17 projects of LEGO set #9630 (Simple Mechanisms), plus its expansion motor set #9615. I have used parts instead from the newer LEGO WeDo sets #9580 and #9585. WeDo sets may be found in an increasing number of classrooms; they are intended to be introductory robotics sets but include lots of basic mechanism parts and projects. I hope these can be used.

Variations on the activities for \"Smart Spinner\" that come with WeDo Activity Pack (curriculum) from LEGO education. A higher-level, more-scientific version of the data table (taking multiple samples and averaging results), and some rules and score sheets for a \"Battle Tops\" competition. Kids love the competition part! Crank up the Bloom\'s level by having students apply their learning in order to customize their launcher, top, or program.

An in-depth adaptation of the data table to go with the Drumming Monkey project (#3, Amazing Mechanisms Projects, from the LEGO Education WeDo Activity Pack). Kids who do not have music background need help counting and hearing/observing a rhythm. Tell them to drum along with the monkey! Also encourage them to make up their own arrangements & rhythms.

In this activity, students compare the two vehicles, and then design and build a rover model that may be used to explore the moon. Special considerations for the vehicle include the type of terrain the rover will traverse.
