This is the 7th lab of the unit and focus on magnetic poles, two and three dimensional magnetic fields, and magnetic domains. It is a four station lab where students will rotate in lab groups.

In this activity, middle school students use are introduced to concepts including magnetic poles, the earth as a magnet, and magnetic fields. The resource includes detailed lesson objectives and clear guiding question, a materials list, procedures and suggested assessment. Student worksheets are exceptionally organized and clear, and include questions throughout the investigation, as well as a more formal assessment at the end of the activity. Answer keys are provided for all student assessment and anticipated lab results. All handouts are uploaded as both a Word document and a pdf, for the user’s downloading preference. This particular lesson is thoughtfully considerate of classroom management and student safety.
