MGS MOC Release No. MOC2-370, 24 May 2003 West Candor is part of the vast Valles Marineris trough system. These chasms and canyons cut through ancient, layered bedrock. This Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) picture shows some of the layering revealed in the wall and on the upland surface outside of southwest Candor Chasma. This image is located near 6.7S, 76.8W. Sunlight illuminates the scene from the right/lower right.
