Description:

Some money becomes legendary because it symbolizes human struggle and triumph. This section of the online exhibition entitled "Legendary Coins and Currency'' shows how crises in American history have challenged Americans to adapt their conceptions about money and find creative solutions to economic problems. Students will learn about the use of paper money during the American Revolution, Confederate currency, and emergency currency used during the Great Depression. This highly interactive resource, from the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, allows students to rotate and zoom in on objects for detailed examination. A glossary linked to the exhibition will help students learn challenging vocabulary.
