Introduction: Students will be shown a PowerPoint Presenation which contains the criteria for their own personal PowerPoint Presentations. This is the time for teachers to discuss grading rubrics for both the PowerPoint itself as well as the presentation students will be delivering to their parent/guardian for the student led conference. Group Size: Whole classTime Allotment: 45 minutes (one class period) Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to identify the four major parts of their PowerPoint presentation.
Students will have a clear understanding of the criteria for both their PowerPoint as well as the presentation component.
Guiding Question: How will I be graded on my PowerPoint? How will I be graded on my presentation to my parent/guardian? What's expected of me throughout this unit/project? Materials: Capability of showing a PowerPoint presenation to your class and/or adapting as needed PowerPoint which is attached to this lesson and can be found in the teacher resource section Scoring rubric for students' PowerPoint Presentations (can be found in teacher resources) Scoring rubric for students' oral presentation during their student led conference (can be found in teachers resources) Parent survey (can be found in teacher resources) Procedures:
Start by discussing the Guiding Questions with the students
Now explain that there are 4 major parts (Pre-Conference, Student Preparation, Post-Conference, Post Evaluation) to this unit and their PowerPoint presentation
Explain that the PowerPoint they are about to see will highlight each of the 4 major parts of this unit highlighting what's expected from them
Begin showing students the PowerPoint presentation
Discuss each slide and what it means to you...(I've included notes in the notes section for reference.)
Make sure students have all of their questions answered and completely understand the scoring rubrics.
(OPTIONAL) Students write a short summary about the 4 major parts and what needs to be included in each part in order for them to be successful.
Assessment: This lesson includes continuous informal assessment of all of the students as you present the PowerPoint presentation. You can also informally assess the students based on the questions they ask. If you have students do the optional activity collect it and read over them as a formal assessment. Answer Key or Rubric: You are just checking for students understanding of the expectations for their own personal PowerPoint presentation as well as if they understand the 4 major components of the unit Below is the link for the student created PowerPoint rubric PowerPointScoringRubric.doc The following link is for the scoring rubric used to score students' oral presentations given during the conference with their parents/guardians.
