Reviewer Comments:

This resource is an external link to an excellent PBS website that has an interactive activity that accompanies the Lewis and Clark documentary Into the Unknown. Students play the role of one of the members of the expedition and have the opportunity to make decisions while learning about the challenges of the journey. Along with this particular activity, there are other very good classroom resources on the site including an interactive trail map and detailed lesson plans with clear objectives, procedures, and materials. The lessons cover various Social Studies topics including Native Americans, mapmaking, and the Lewis and Clark journals. There are also lessons for Math, Science, and Language Arts. Overall, a great resource to use in teaching students about Westward Expansion.
