Description:

This resource provides an interactive activity demonstrating LEED as a technique for the determination of the surface structure of crystalline materials by bombardment with a collimated beam of low energy electrons (20-200eV) and observation of diffracted electrons as spots on a fluorescent screen. The activity uses colors to illustrate the motion of the electrons. An interactive diagram is presented allowing students to experiment and watch a simulation of the result.
