Description:

In this interactive, online activity, students explore the nature and composition of comets by selecting and mixing different elements and compounds found in a comet's nucleus. Students then observe the results of their mixtures upon the appearance of the comet and its tail. Upon completion of this activity, students will be able to create their own comets and identify different types of comet tails. Students can complete this activity independently or in small groups. Detailed teacher pages, identified as Teaching Tips on the title page, provide science background information, lesson plan ideas, related resources, and alignment with national education standards. This activity is part of the online exploration Comets on the Amazing Space website.
