College name: East Los Angeles College (Math Lab)

What is the number of hours that math tutoring is offered in the lab? 46 hours per week, including 5 hours on Saturday

Does your lab offer drop in tutoring? Yes, in a sense. There are tables reserved for students to study alone or in groups. A student can summon a tutor simply by raising his hand. So students can get quick answers or extended tutoring, though most questions are about specific problems, so the tutors average just a few minutes with each student.

Does your lab offer appointment tutoring? Appointments for groups of at least four, only, in "review-session" format

Do you offer self-paced courses through the lab? No, but we could in the future.

If you offer self-paced courses, what kinds of contact do you have with students throughout the semester? N/A

Who staffs the lab (tutors/instructors/paraprofessionals)? Several tutors in shifts (our students), front desk workers (some are tutors), some full-time faculty, and classified/adjunct instructors

If instructors are involved, to what extent? Instructors share the tutoring load, as well as situations where student tutors may not have the appropriate math background (say, for differential equations or numerical analysis). Instructors also handle administrative duties, like hiring tutors, scheduling, representing the lab on campus committees, etc.

If there is anything you could change about your lab, what would it be? I would make it larger. Our lab includes study space for students, and this fills up quickly most of the time. Sometimes students complain about the number of available tutors, so an unlimited budget for tutor pay would be useful.
