Reviewer Comments:

In this comprehensive five to nine week unit, elementary students (targeted for grade 3) will study various food types in the context of the USDA MyPyramid for Kids. Students will learn more about reading nutritional labels, making healthy choices, and the digestive system. There is even an included “Digestive System Journal” for student use. Activities have clear objectives and are age-appropriate. Each “kit” in the Curriki repository includes a teacher’s manual and student activity book. The teacher’s manual includes a unit overview, scheduling information, extensive and clear background information materials, preparation instructions, discussion questions, an assessment, cross-curricular extension ideas, a glossary and teacher references. The student manual includes clear, reproducible student handouts and a glossary. This excellent unit is immediately useful in the classroom.
