This newer and beautifully designed version of "Powers of 10" takes students on a nano-journey inside a carbon-based cell, a light-emitting diode, and a laptop microchip. It is formatted in descending powers of 10, from the scale of one meter to femtometer size. At each descending level, users can click on background information and supplementary Flash simulations. Choose from three images and send "postcards" to friends about your Nanoreisen journey. Very high-resolution digital photography and scanning electron microscopy are used for images ranging from the centimeter scale to .1 of a micrometer. Matter at the nanometer scale and smaller is depicted by computer generated graphics. This resource is appropriate for high school and introductory lower-level undergraduate courses, but can be adapted for middle school.
