Interactive, Other

Animated, interactive simulation of the process of Natural Selection. The user - acting in the role of a predator (Gooney Bird) - is presented a population of randomly colored bugs; the user then selects bugs as though preying upon them. After a round of selection (numerous predations), the survivors reproduce (more bugs of the same color as the remaining bugs are added to the population). After three rounds of selection, the surviving population is displayed next to the captured group. A comparison can usually be made quite readily, depending on the mix of random colors in the opening of the simulation. Designed for middle level life science instruction, this simulation could be used with small groups. Group members could take turns as predator, pointing at the first bug they see.

Not too helpful, but still a good beginning for Natural Selection.
