Description:

This Earth science resource features an animation of the volcanic activity that occurs when an oceanic plate subducts under a continental plate. An introductory paragraph provides background information about the events depicted in the animation. These events include the creation and eruption of magma and the formation of volcanic mountains at a subduction zone. Key features such as the asthenosphere are labeled at the beginning of the animation, and arrows indicate the direction of the oceanic plate's movement.
