Description:

This resource presents the Hubble galaxy classification scheme to students in middle and high school Earth science classes. The introduction explains the descriptive nomenclature, as well as the names for harder-to-classify galaxies. The resource presents an illustrated tuning fork diagram that arranges the galaxies according to shape and structure: elliptical, spiral, barred spiral, irregular, and peculiar. Students are instructed to click on a picture of each class to see a larger photograph of a sample galaxy. Copyright 2005 Eisenhower National Clearinghouse
