Dear Olweus Bullying Prevention Trainers and State Leaders: I hope your summer is off to a great start and that you have some R&R ahead of you. Educators who implement the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP), or who are considering doing so, frequently ask if the OBPP supports Common Core Standards. As you know, the Common Core is a set of academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA). In recent months, we’ve been hard at work on a few documents to show how the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program aligns with Common Core Standards. Long-time OBPP trainers and bullying prevention experts June Jenkins, Lucinda Mejdell-Awbrey, and Nancy Mullin spent weeks pouring over the Common Core Standards and considering their fit with OBPP materials. The results of their work are the attached documents, which we think you and local school personnel will find extremely helpful. Does the OBPP fit with Common Core? The answer is a resounding YES! We’re posting these prominent locations on the Trainers Only and main pages of the OBPP website. Here is the direct link on the public page: http://www.clemson.edu/olweus/index.html and http://www.clemson.edu/olweus/about.html. Don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions about the documents or how they can be useful in your work. And the next time you see June, Lucinda, or Nancy, be sure to thank them for their terrific work! Sincerely,Susan P.
