Description:

A study of the interaction of novice teachers with their educational environment showed that, even though an "integrated professional culture" which promotes interaction among new and entrenched faculty increases retention rates, more than one-half of the novice teachers who took part in the study were left to prepare their courses and to teach in relative isolation. The authors then suggest policy changes specific to supporting new teachers.
