Description:

The biodiversity of marshes has been a vital resource for people for thousands of years. Papyrus, seen here supporting a kingfisher on Lake Mburo, Uganda, was originally harvested and dried around the marshlands of the Nile Delta, Egypt. The dried papyrus was prepared as an ancient form of paper scrolls.
