This virtual manipulative is designed to help students see the relationships among the three quantities involved in calculating a percent. A diagram illustrates the mathematical relationship for the part, whole, and percent of the whole represented by the part. To use the virtual manipulative, the student enters numbers in two of three blank fields and clicks the compute button. The applet generates two graphics showing the relation between the part, whole, and percent. It also displays the calculations involved in finding the percent. Instructions for using the applet and suggestions for parents and teachers to extend the use of the applet are included, along with a link to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standard for number and operations.
