For users not familiar with photoelectrochemistry, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry provides a concise, educational definition of the hybrid field of chemistry: "A term applied to a hybrid field of chemistry employing techniques which combine photochemical and electrochemical methods for the study of the oxidation-reduction chemistry of the ground or excited states of molecules or ions. In general, it is the chemistry resulting from the interaction of light with electrochemical systems."
