Reviewer Comments:

This outstanding resource is made of 6 PowerPoint presentations created to support John Steinbeck’s novel the Grapes of Wrath. The first PPT introduces the time period in which the novel is set. It explains the Dust Bowl, the Depression, the movement west, etc. etc. It also talks about social injustice, the important success of the novel and movie and the Pulitzer Prize awarded Steinbeck for his work. The second PPT is empty, but is really contained in the first one. The third PPT provides historical context and explanation for Chapters 1 – 6 of the novel. Literary analysis - terms, devices and structure are identified and explored, as well as the overriding theme of social injustice. The other PPTs expound on the rest of the novel and discuss the plight of the country and the individual, dehumanization, themes, etc. etc. Some themes examined and reviewed are: hope, class conflict, transcendental consciousness, commitment, fanaticism, etc. The PPTs provide background information prior to reading, during reading and after reading the text and are rich, relevant and revealing.
