A test for a poetry unit. Note that the poetry files in this collection come mostly from two separate teachers--Katie Smith and Emily Martin. This is Emily's test and doesn't necessarily cover info from Katie's resources. We should work to integrate the two. This resource is part of the Poetry collection.

This test is part of the larger Poetry Unit. It begins by asking the student to match a variety of poetic terms with definitions, i.e. onomatopoeia, haiku, couplet, personification, assonance. The next section relates to specific poems – “No Difference,” and “The Little Blue Engine” by Shel Silverstein and asks the student to identify theme, figurative language, rhyme schemes, stanzas, etc. More short answer questions let the student share what he or she knows about poetry and extra credit is offered for writing a limerick.

Thank you! This was very comprehensive and a great resource. I liked the way you matched or grouped the initial multiple choice phase for more efficient and accurate testing results.…
