Description:

This lecture presented at the "World View in Physics Education 2005" conference identifies differences between what physics instructors expect to be gained from usage of physics equations in the classroom and students' perceptions of the meaning of the formalisms. The author addresses how physics students and mathematics students might arrive at different conceptual interpretations based on their prior coursework.
