Introduction:
 

(After watching Captain Planet-episode one)

You have been called upon Captain Planet to become a member of his team. You and your group members (groups should consist of 4-5 students)are to choose your powers and help Captain Planet clean up the earth in time for an Earth Day celebration.

The Task:
 

In order in understand what will need to be cleaned up to be ready for the celebration you must understand what Earth Day is all about.

Project Earth Day
1.) Explain the history of Earth Day. Use the 5 W’s to explain.
2.) Why is Earth Day important?
3.) As a group, create a project relating to Earth Day that can benefit the environment. Explain.

Research, using the web to answer the questions above.


After answering these questions you are to create a poster including the answers above. You should also include demonstrations of your project. Demonstrations can include photos of the actual projects or examples of what you would do for your project including drawings, graphs, etc.

 

The Process:
 

1. You will be assigned to teams of 4 or 5.

2. Choose which member of Captain Planet's team you are and what your power will be.

3. After deciding your roles each group member will research about Earth Day to answer the questions you have been given. Be sure to record what each group member researches.

5. When creating your project you are to create a poster board explaining what you did. You can have pictures, a summary, anything needed to describe what your group did to contribute to Earth Day.

6. After creating your poster you will present it to the class in your role as a member of Captain Planet's team.

Conclusion:
 

By the end of this assignment students will have learned about the origin of Earth Day and why it is so important. Students should take away with them a sense of accomplishment in what they have achieved doing their projects and should remember to clean up mother Earth and keep her clean!
