Description:

This virtual manipulative enables the student to move around squares and triangles to demonstrate the validity of the Pythagorean theorem. The student drags and rotates squares and triangles to show that the square upon the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares upon its sides. The proof by dissection uses the fact that the triangles are all congruent. Instructions for using the applet and some background information about proving the Pythagorean theorem are included.
