This collection of QuickTime files is a resource I created for English as a Second Language (ESOL) students in Takoma Park, Maryland. These QuickTime files include some children's stories and nonfiction reading passages I wrote. These writings are read aloud by a high quality text-to-speech voice on a Macintosh computer. As the text is read the sentences are highlighted. I intentionally chose a slow reading speed for the readings so that beginning readers (and people new to English) would find these QuickTime files accessible. Students can start and stop these QuickTime files using the space bar. These QuickTime files play well on older computers because I used video and audio codecs that do not require a lot of processing power. Any computer from 1996 onwards ought to be able to play these QuickTime files.
