This tool simulates software engineering environments with the goal of bridging the gap between the conceptual knowledge given to students in lectures and the comparably small amount of knowledge they get to put into practice in an associated "toy" software engineering project. SimSE allows students to practice a virtual software engineering process in a fully graphical, interactive, and fun setting with direct feedback enabling them to learn the cause-and-effect relationships underlying the process of software engineering. It takes the form of a single-player game in which the student assumes the role of project manager of a team of developers. As the player manages the process of completing a task, he or she can hire and fire employees, assign tasks to them, monitor their progress, purchase tools, and perform other functions. The downloads page provides access to zipped files for the model builder, selected models, source code, games, and documentation.
