Reviewer Comments:

This robust resource provides social studies curriculum with complex literacy lesson plans for grades 2-6, including reading materials aligned appropriately for every reading level. The objectives are New York State Standards, i.e. Reading: Students will read, write, listen and speak for information and understanding; for literary response and expression, social interaction; critical analysis and evaluation. A lesson on being a good citizen, for example, includes a read aloud replete with excellent comprehension questions, graphic organizers and ideas for authentic assessment; and independent reading material with questions designed to help students self monitor comprehension and elicit higher level critical thinking. All social studies themes, such as community (rural and urban), food, commerce, civics, government, US history, etc. are included. Videos of historical events are also part of this resource.
