Description:

These educational materials use fantasy concepts from the children's book and new movie "Zathura" as a way to explain real space science. Materials include lesson plans for teachers on comet facts, myths, and legends, and on the possibility of extracting useful resources from asteroids. There are also assessment rubrics, standards, and science benchmarks, and a poster entitled "Could a House Launch Into Orbit?" which can be used in conjunction with the lesson plans. Additional activities are provided on comets, meteors, meteoroids, and black holes.
