Description:

What is special education?  As it relates to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), special education encompasses specially designed instruction that is free and appropriate.  Furthermore, it meets the specific needs of a child with a disability.  Special education can provide additional services, support programs, specialized placements, or environments that are tailored to the needs of children with disabilities.  Oftentimes, we have misconceptions about special education and the roles and responsibilities of special education teachers.  This link will offer a host of resources that will alleviate any misunderstandings of special education services.
