Description:

In this activity, students will investigate data from other stars that resemble the Sun in size and temperature. They will discover that by monitoring monthly changes in the light they emit at specific wavelengths, they can investigate how storms on these stars ebb and flow over time. They will also learn that these stellar activity cycles may be caused by the same processes as our own Sun's sunspot cycle, but with other properties that make them unique. As part of this activity, students will use graphic data on the activity cycles of five stars, including the Sun, calculate the periodicity of their activity cycles, and compare them.
