Various (10-20) household grocery items will be placed around the room. The student will be asked to evenly disperse themselves around the items. They will be asked use the item and a tape measure provided to find the total surface area of the item in the units asked for. The students already have previous knowledge of surface area so they should have all formulas and strategies available to them in their notes or previous work. When they find the surface area of the given figure, they will be asked to then find that answer on another object around the room. They must record their work and a quick sketch of the object as they complete a problem. Each new object then leads them to the next object around the room. They continue this process until they find the surface area to all objects. A short assignment will be given to complete outside of class.
