Description:

In this activity, students will compare and contrast Chinese and Japanese abaci, and explore calculations on the Japanese abacus. They will also learn to use the abacus to display numbers and calculate sums of whole numbers. Students will then compare the abacus, the calculator and mental computation to determine the tool that produces the fastest correct answer.
