Description:

This site by Joh Kahl of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee provides an explanation of the popular photograph of the sun making an analemma (figure eight shape) taken by Dennis di Cicco. For the image shown, the sun’s position in the sky was filmed at exactly the same time of day on 44 days throughout the course of one year to form an analemma. A clear explanation of how the analemma figure results and of how it can be used as a miniature almanac is also included.
